2026 Community Events Summer Internship
The Perry Chamber of Commerce is seeking a reliable, energetic self-starter who is highly motivated to assist with the planning and execution of community events such as the weekly Farmers’ Market, annual Friday Fest, 4th of July Celebration, and Block Party, as well as RAGBRAI. In addition to being an integral team member for executing events, the selected candidate will assist in developing communications campaigns to enhance the Chamber’s member promotions and destination marketing efforts.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning and logistics for all summer events
- Assist with execution of all events, including set up and tear down
- Provide marketing assistance for events including writing press releases, managing social media, photographing events, designing posters and other materials, etc.
- Assist with general marketing for the organization and its membership
- Additional tasks as assigned by the Executive Director
Skill Requirements:
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Exceptional interpersonal/customer service personality
- Critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Basic skills in photography and video production
- General knowledge and experience with digital marketing and social media platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher, as well as Google Docs and Sheets
Employment Standards:
- Currently pursuing, enrolled in, or graduated from, a college or university majoring in public relations, marketing, event planning or related field
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Capable of lifting 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to work in a variety of weather and temperature conditions
Dates: Mid-May through Mid-August, as available – 10 to 15 weeks total
Hours:
- Average of 15-25 hours/week, as available
- Regular weekly schedule to be established, with flexibility to adjust for special events
- Ideally available on Thursday evenings and for events on June 12, July 4, July 21 and July 24
Compensation: $12-15/hour, dependent on skills and experience
