February 4, 11, 18, 25
This month, we will celebrate the STEM side of the Winter Games in Italy! How does curling work? What makes a bobsled go? How do skiers get safely down the mountain? In addition to these fun experiments, our friends from ISU Extension will host WOW! Wednesday on February 25th.Our WOW! Wednesdays STEAM program for elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade explores Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! The group meets every Wednesday (January to April and September to November) from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, in the Community Room. We will also have our Maker Space cart available for tinkering at each WOW! Wednesday. Our February schedule includes:
- February 4 – Curling: We will learn about the sport of curling and play our own game of curling!
- February 11 – Bobsled and Ice Hockey: We will design our own mini bobsleds and race them down a track. We will also play ice hockey using the BEAM projector!
- February 18 – Downhill Skiing and Ski Jump: We will design our own ski jumps using pool noodles and navigate candy through a downhill skiing course!
- February 25 – ISU Extension: Circuit Cards. ISU Extension will be back with circuit cards. Make a card that lights up using copper tape, batteries, and lights!
