4/2/2024 Big Boom Bracket Battle Ends with a Bang

Final Round of Big Boom Bracket Battle Goes Out With a Bang!
Alex Lott Wins the Grand Finale Duo; Awarded Pie-in-the-Face on April 8th

Perry, April 2, 2024 The fourth and final round of the Big Boom Bracket Battle raised a total of $2,291.78 for the Perry Chamber of Commerce’s annual fireworks drive for the community’s 4th of July fireworks show. In total, this year’s “March Madness” themed fundraiser brought in $7,046.88, representing nearly 40% of the annual fundraising goal and a new record for the 5th annual event.

“This year’s Grand Finale Showdown was unintentionally, but quite comically timed with April Fool’s Day,” says Lynsi Pasutti, Executive Director of the Perry Chamber of Commerce. “The duo only had $20 donated between them on April 1st with just 24 hours to go. Then, we were all in for a surprise with so much action in the final hour and down to the final minutes with online donations!”

While not quite a record-breaking round, this year’s Grand Finale Duo was just $60 short of this year’s Sweet-as-Pie 16 – with sixteen total contestants – and just $38 shy of the biggest Grand Finale Showdown to date in 2021 between Shawn Welch and Courtney Straker. In this year’s finale, Alex Lott of the Perry Police Department won with his $1,374.35 in donations, beating Ivette Drahos of The Lazy Goose Boba Tea & Ice Cream with her $917.43 in donations.

“No matter the winner of the bracket, Perry is the winner,” says Drahos, “because the whole community wins from this fundraiser. We all get to enjoy the 4th of July fireworks!”

The finale of the contest – Alex Lott receiving the award of a pie in the face – will take place on Monday, April 8th at 3:30pm, which can be viewed live on the Perry Chamber’s Facebook page.

“This year’s Big Boom Bracket Battle was a BLAST!” states Lott.  “It was a lot of fun, and for a great cause that will bring a great experience and a lot of laughs! I can’t wait to get a pie in my face! Thanks to everyone involved with the setup and most of all the donations received by all!”

The Big Boom Bracket Battle is one of three main fundraisers hosted by the Perry Chamber of Commerce to support the annual fireworks drive. In addition to the Radio Pie Auction on April 3rd and the Grocery Round-up at Fareway and Hy-vee in May, donations can be made at any time to the Perry Chamber Foundation by mail to PO Box 472, Perry, IA, 50220.  Questions can be directed to Lynsi Pasutti via Foundation@PerryIAChamber.org or (515) 465-4601.
